What we have here is one of our very own specialty necks: African Mahogany with a 12" radius striped rosewood fretboard (with no fret markers) and our new patented heel-adjustment system, this is one very, very special neck.
As with all our work, the wood used in this neck has been carefully hand-selected for individual tonal properties and beauty and absolutely always comes from sustainable sources. African Mahogany has some very unique tonal properties, adding huge amounts of sustain and rich tone to any stock guitar it is used by Gibson in many of their guitars and necks and gives a massive sound. It is almost unheard of, however, to find mahogany replacement necks for Fender instruments - generally because it is difficult to work and more time-consuming than many of the manufacturers are willing to commit to.
As such, this is a very rare offering and a unique opportunity. The mahogany used in this neck is of the highest quality with some really beautiful and vivid figuring - even the photographs don't do this justice. We had originally planned to use Ebony on these necks but having felt the latest batch of rosewood, we changed our minds. The fingerboard is a thick-cut dense slab of Indian Rosewood, it plays beautifully raw and slides under your fingers - especially with the 12" radius. You might, however, want to rub a little lemon oil into it to suit your feelings and taste - just to make it exactly how you like it.
One of the things we also decided with these necks was to omit the fingerboard fret markings - it just looks so much cleaner and nicer without them. This is another rarity although we have included the fretboard side-markings just so that you don't get yourself lost on the fingerboard.
The rear of the neck and headstock are finished in thin layers of nitrocellulose which really allows the exotic woods to resonate all the more freely and adds to that vintage, fast feel.
Continuing the high-quality and playability theme, we use Jim Dunlop 6105 nickel frets, which is the same hard-wearing fret wire used on the Deluxe USA Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters. This, combined with the exotic woods, 12" radius, and nitrocellulose leads to an extremely comfortable and fast-playing neck, making string-bending an absolute breeze. It also looks absolutely stunning.
The headstock is left completely blank for you to add any logo of your choice (please be aware that we will not and do not apply Fender logos to our necks, nor can we supply them), and the heel is left undrilled to ensure a perfect fit with your instrument. A cut bone nut is included, although this can be removed upon request if you have something else you would rather use. We have also incorporated our very own new patented heel-adjusting truss rod system into these necks which allows for that vintage feel at the headstock (no truss rod 'bum' by the nut), gives you more flexibility when making adjustments, and does not interfere with the neck's compatibility with Fender's standard neck pocket dimensions. This is a very rare and unique neck, and would be the ideal starting point for that guitar project that you have been promising yourself since last summer - all you need is a suitable guitar body and you're halfway there. We have some stunning matching African Mahogany bodies in our store that would make an amazing tone-monster!
We can also additionally provide a relicing service for this item if you aren't happy doing such things yourself yet still want a true used vintage appearance, just contact us to find out more!
Please note that this is not a Fender product, nor is it made in a sweatshop in the Far East by children getting paid 10p a day - it's much, much better than that. Like all our items, it has been carefully hand built to exacting standards and dimensions to ensure the highest possible quality, and the perfect fit for Fender, Squier and 98% of the Fender-copy market. We comply directly with Fender's own neck pocket dimensions (see the diagram on the left), although there may still be a small amount of work necessary to ensure a perfect fit.
If you have any doubt over whether any of our work is suitable or not for you, drop us a line, we're always happy to help.
This neck has been left undrilled at both the heel and headstock (apart from machine head holes) to ensure maximum compatibility with anyone and everyone's needs: you can fit it to a three-bolt or four-bolt body, you can use one or two string trees, and you can use any type of machinehead you desire without having holes to refill or build the rest of your guitar around.
